LinkedInOpen Museum brings together art that museums and collections around the world have released for everyone to use, in one search. For every work, we show what you are free to do with it, backed by proof you can check. Soon, you will be able to own it as a museum-grade print.
Museums have opened millions of works to the public, free to use. But they sit in separate collections, and it is rarely clear what you can actually do with any one of them. Open Museum answers both problems: it gathers open-access art in one place, and it makes the rights plain and checkable, so you can use a work with confidence and credit it properly.
We show every work clean, the way its maker left it. The credit and the details sit beside the work, never on top of it.
The trust layer has a name: openclearance. It is an open standard for proving what is allowed with a work, and the proof travels with the work wherever it goes. We are inviting museums, galleries, and others to help govern it as an independent body, so the trust does not belong to us alone.
Open Museum is based in Basel, Switzerland. The collection and the rights records are live today; museum-grade prints are launching soon. We are just getting started.
A small team building reuse-safe access to the world's open collections.
